Did you know that breath work can shut off stress eating?

I'm about to spread a rumor even though I'm not sure it's true.

I learned this simple cheat from James Nestor in his book, "BREATHE".

This trick supposedly works by turning the sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system or the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system on and off.

I don't know if that's really how it works (that's the rumor) so I invite you to experiment and come to your own conclusion.

The cool thing about this technique is that you can try it while you read this cheat sheet (unless your hands are occupied) and there are no negative side effects.

Here's how it works...

When you notice yourself feeling stressed out or anxious, hold your right nostril closed with one finger, close your mouth, and breathe in and out through your left nostril.

You can try it right now and notice what you notice about feeling more calm.

When you feel sluggish and unmotivated and want to feel more energetic, do the opposite.

I always imagine people reading this email in bed on a Sunday morning. If that's you, watch out, because after you try this you're going to want to hop out of bed and get on with your day.

Hold your left nostril closed, close your mouth, and breathe through the right nostril.

Try it now.

Do you feel more energized?

Want to know how this can help you eat less at mealtime?

I've helped hundreds of people manage their weight and this little trick is highly effective.

Here's how it works.

  1. Before you begin eating, hold your right nostril closed and take several breaths through your left nostril to enter a calm state.

The number one reason people overeat at mealtime is because they feel stressed while they eat.

(Cravings are a form of stress.)

Left nostril breathing turns off stress and the feeling of wanting to eat extra food.

  1. At the end of the meal, when you know you've had enough, hold your left nostril closed and breathe through the right nostril.

This will invigorate you and help you feel excited about walking away from the table without overeating.

Right nostril breathing energizes you and motivates you to stop eating.

Mentally rehearse doing this the next time you eat if you want to easily remember to try this little experiment.

Love,

Lori
